Help Tom "The Berzerker" Clare Tap Cancer Out!

Tap Cancer Out Summer Charity

Some may or may not know that Tom Clare is a two time survivor of Hodgkin Lymphoma. As a fighter Tom has not only took control of his body by beating cancer, but you may have seen him compete in the cage or even grappling in various competitions. We din’t know much about Tom and at Cage Wars 18 we heard Tom’s story and have been inspired by this young man ever since and this is why we want to pass along this information to you.

June 22, 2013 in Danvers Massachusetts the Tap Cancer Out Summer BJJ Open will be taking place and Tom will be competing to help raise funds for this outstanding cause. Now any amount will help and his goal is set at $200, but let’s see if we can get Tom to his goal and maybe that extra push to put him over his goal for this great cause.

As a two time survivor of Hodgkin Lymphoma and avid grappler/fighter, this charity is very near and dear to me. I will be going into this event ready to compete at my best. However the matches I will fight are nothing compared to the wars that patients, as well as their family and loved ones, effected by this disease fight every day.

FREE VIP Cage Wars 20 Tickets!

Cage Wars 20

Now before you go crazy and start wonder how you can score FREE VIP Cage Wars 20 tickets, there are a few things you must know and we have added the details below. Also you must be following Shannon Miller on Facebook and leave him a comment as to why you should be the winner of VIP tickets to Cage Wars 20. There are a lot of ways to qualify and two lucky people will win two tickets to Cage Wars 20.

Now for the details to qualify to win (by the way if you qualify under section 3 we feel bad that you had to be punched by Shannon) those VIP Cage Wars 20 Tickets!

ATTENTION: FREE Cage Wars 20 VIP LIST… I am in the process of putting together my VIP list to get in free for cage wars 20. If you would like to be on the list you will have to enter your name in the comment section and what choice qualifies you. BUT keep in mind the only way you qualify for the chance at getting in free you must meet a few criteria. It’s pretty easy to qualify so look through and pick out at least one qualifier and mention it as your choice when you put your name in to win free tickets. This contest will stay open until June 22nd at which point I will pick 2 winners from a drawing and those two people may also bring a guest so a total of 4 people will earn the spot to get something for nothing! FREE CAGE WARS 20 VIP entry for the June 29th show at the Washington avenue armory.

Now the qualifiers:

1- I had to go to elementary, junior high, high school or college with you.

2- I have had to work out with you at some gym somewhere at some point. Now I didn’t have to be working out with you exactly but you had to at least be a member of the gym while I was as well.

3- I have either punched you in the face or been punched in the face by you.

4- you have had to have never visited me when I was in jail or the hospital because if you did it would actually qualify you as a friend and thereby disqualify you. (Seeing how I have never been in jail all would technically qualify but I have been in the hospital a few times and lots of people didn’t visit so this is a great chance to get on the list)

5- I have done drugs with you or had a drink with you. (Seeing how I have never ever done drugs in my life none of you would qualify, BUT I have had a drink here and there in my lifetime and you may not of actually been the person I was having the drink with but you were in the vicinity so you would qualify.)

6) if you are one of those guys that instead of just shaking hands with a person who is just a acquaintance you must pull them in and give them that fake chest pump hug, you qualify because you water down the effect of a hug by giving it to everyone instead of people that actually matter in your life and you are close too.

7) you definitely qualify if we are Facebook “friends”
you also would qualify if you we’re going to buy a ticket to the great cage wars event but instead try to sneak in under the guise that you are close with one of the people with the authority to actually get you in.

9) you DO NOT qualify if you actually help with the cage wars event by say: setting up the arena, helping with the cage, helping at the event, doing any actual work that would really help us and qualify you to actually earn getting in for nothing. Sorry but you can still qualify with one of the other options.

10) you do qualify to get on the list if you are more interested in getting drunk at the after party and posting pics of it on Facebook instead of actually watching true warriors battle in the cage.

11) FIGHTERS, HELPER, SPONSORS and people that put their time or money and effort into making Cage Wars a great success and a growing company I’m sorry you normally wouldn’t qualify but I will allow you to use #11 as a qualifier to get on the list at this chance to win.

Now with all of these options there is pretty much a chance for everyone to get in the list for the chance to see CAGE WARS 20 for nothing but if you have any other great reason please mention them and not only will you get entered into the drawing once but if I like it I will enter your name twice! The winners will be announced on my Facebook page the night before the fights and your name will be on my list at the door! Not only will you get in free but I will also shake your hand and buy you a drink! I assure you shaking my hand has no value at all but the drink is well, priceless!

CAGE WARS 20!!!! Our best card yet!

June 29th @ the Washington Avenue Armory

Doors open at 6:30 and fights start at 8 — with Cage Wars.

Interview With Chris Johnson Amateur MMA Fighter

Chris Johnson (1)

We were able to catch up with Chris Johnson and ask him a couple of questions about his amateur MMA career as well as his upcoming fight May 24, 2013 at the Show Down at the Sheraton V in Agoura Hills California as Chris will face Jeremy Vanorstran for the Super Heavyweight title belt. As you will see below Chris has a big heart and loves his family which is his main driving force and is looking to make the move from amateur one day to the pros.

Show Down at the Sheration V

Age:34

Height
:6’2″
Weight:267to270lbs
Associations: Hoodlum Fight Gear, Spy Optics, Big Belly Crew Clothing, Paragon BJJ, Anytime Fitness
Disciplines: BJJ, Wrestling
Wins: 1
Losses: 1

I started fighting about a yr and a half go but have trained Brazilian Jui-Jitsu for about 5 yrs now. What struck me and my interest to fight was the dedication and perseverance you have to get in to be in the best shape you can be. I started attending Paragon BJJ and started training under BILL THE GRILL COOPER AND JEFF GLOVER AND RICARDO FRANJINHA MILLER . Bill had said to me Chris why don’t you start training to fight MMA, with him so there it started. On my off time I like to spend it with my wife and kids.

What does it means to you to be an amateur fighter? Well it means I need to bust my butt and win my fight so I one day go pro .

What do you do to prepare for an upcoming fight? Well I usually start my camp about 8 to 10 weeks out and that means train at least a minimum of 2 times a day meal plans, supplements, sparring and whatever else my coaches throw at me.

Who is your biggest inspiration? I would have to say my kids

What are your biggest strengths and what is the one thing you need to work on the most? Well buddy I would have to say I have a sick ground game for a big guy, but don’t get fooled I have heavy hands. What I think I need to work on is keeping the pressure and staying off the cage.

What’s your favorite strike/submission to use in any fight?
Well Scott I have a mean overhand right and hook, submission wise it is the good old monson choke and kimura.

Do you like to stand with your opponents or take them to the ground? Well I love to stand but I also love taking it to the ground.

What hole’s do you see in Jeremy Vanorstran’s game?
His Jiu Jitsu he can’t execute his moves from what I have seen.

How and what round do you think you will finish Jeremy on the 24th? Just wait and see brother!

Anything you would like to say to Jeremy? Nothing at the moment.

If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be? Big Country Roy Nelson!

Summing it all up where do you see yourself in your MMA career five years down the line: I see myself either in the UFC or another big organization.

First let us tell you what HHH stands for: Half Hour Hell! Yes folks our friend over at Atlas Jiu Jitsu is battling the bulge for those that need it 2 days a week for a half hour each time. Now I have watched some of the videos and let me tell you if I had more real bones than metal I would see if I had what it takes to last a half hour and fight the battle of the bulge. With that said we may have one of Team diMonda try it out, and if he does we will keep you updated. Until than please see what Ed had to say below:

Hello Facebook today I want you all to do a favor for me. If you see someone overweight or out of shape go invite them to one of my classes. Don’t worry about offending someone all you are doing is trying to help. Being fat isn’t funny it’s an epidemic. My HHH (half hour hell) class will get anyone in shape in 30 minutes twice a week. Medical Suspensions From Cage Wars 19

Cage Wars logo

As we know Cage Wars is the premier amateur MMA event in our area, and staying on top of the ever evolving sport we all love Cage Wars has instituted Medical Suspensions. Now when we hear the word suspension we usually think back to our days in school and suspension meant a bad thing, but this is just the opposite. Medical suspension are for the fighters safety, because we all know if a +1 was put in our loss column we would want to get back into the cage to get a +1 in the win column as soon as possible.

Medical suspension from Cage wars 19 are as follows

Paul Colantonio (TKO) 30 days or until medically cleared

Asi Somburu (KO) 90 days or until medically cleared

Henry Schindler (KO) 90 Days or until medically cleared

Matt Boyce (TKO) 30 days or until medically cleared

Here is more on what Cage Wars had to say about medical suspensions:

Effective immediately 5guys fighting and Cage Wars have adopted a Medical suspension list based on the results and performances at the events!

Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the Medical Clearance. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.

this is for the safety of the FIGHTERS, If you bring Us medical clearance before the end of the suspension, the suspension will of course be lifted and you will be allowed to compete!!

To stay up to date with Cage Wars you can visit their website and follow them on Facebook, as well as staying tuned right here as we will keep you up to date with Cage Wars and amateur MMA in our area.

Cage Wars 19 Dave "The Warrior" Brock

Cage Wars 19 Dave Brock (58)

Even though Dave “The Warrior” Brock did not fight the night of Cage Wars as he was supposed to because his opponent did a disappearing act, that did not stop the Tri-City Heavyweight champion from making a grand entrance for the fans in the crowd that evening. Just because The Warrior did not fight that night that shouldn’t stop us from sharing with you what we caught on tape at Cage Wars 19.

Who Will Face Dave "The Warrior" Brock?!

Cage Wars 19 Dave Brock (48)

First and foremost we are not promoters, this is my opinion and mine only. If you would like to step into the cage with Dave “The Warrior” Brock please contact Cage Wars and if you are not a heavyweight we are certain Cage Wars will find an opponent for you.

With all that said, a lot of us were disappointed with Dennis Day Jr. not showing up to step into the cage with Dave on May 11th for a shot at the Tri-City Heavyweight title. We are not going to go into the whole thing because Shannon Miller from Cage Wars was elegant in the way he put the situation and was very kind with his words after the situation they (Cage Wars) faced on Saturday night. I have know the men from Cage Wars for only a little while and you could see the disappointment in their faces about the whole situation. So this is what brings me here today, once again not as a promoter but to ask the question Who Will Face Dave “The Warrior” Brock! I am not asking this question to Cage Wars, but to the amateur MMA Heavyweights out there. Now you could leave your comments why don’t I face him if I am asking these questions and I will simply put it, I am not a MMA fighter, nor do I portray to be one. We do this as a service for the fighters that train like there is no tomorrow, that make the sacrifices to be the best they can be and come into the cage ready to do battle.

I now I got off track for a minute there and the question is still at hand and we at Warriors Instinct MMA ask if you feel you have what it takes to step into the cage with Dave “The Warrior” Brock please contact Cage Wars. Before you start hitting them up asking to step into the cage with Brock, make sure this is what you really want to do, don’t be that guy to flake out the last minute, and don’t hit them up if you have never fought before. Cage Wars are the best at matching opponents and will not just put you in the cage to fight.

Now I will close and ask the Amateur Heavyweights out there, DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO FACE DAVE “THE WARRIOR’ BROCK in the cage!

Who Will Face Dave "The Warrior" Brock?!

A Message From Shannon Miller From Cage Wars

Cage Wars logo

For those that were in attendance of Cage Wars 19 may already know the opponent that agreed to face the Tri-City Heavyweight Champion Dave “The Warrior” Brock was a no-show. Now this not only puts Cage Wars in a bind as they promoted the fight, but the fighter as well that trained so for this match and the fans that came to see their favorite fighter bring it to the cage. So yesterday Shannon Miller partner of Cage Wars released a statement concerning no-show opponents.

We are posting this as a Amateur MMA Public Service Announcement, we have not been asked by Cage Wars to share this, but we feel if you are not following Shannon Miller on Facebook you should be aware of what everyone has to go through when you decide not to be a person of your word and not only blackball yourself, but attempt to tarnish the sport all of us love (we are using the word “attempt” because if you pull the no-show, no-call BS you were never a true fighter anyway and can’t tarnish the sport with your actions).

To our fans, fighters, and friends: Cage Wars would like to take a moment to address a issue we as have faced in the past and just as recently as our last card this past weekend. The issue is that of people who agree to fights only to become no shows on fight night. When a person agrees to a fight he is giving his opponent his word that he will be there. His opponent then begins a very tough training camp that can consist of 6-8 weeks of 3 hours a day of training if not more. For anyone who has gone through it they understand. It is not a pleasant time and for most fighters the training camp is more difficult then the fight. The promoters also count on you when you say you will take a fight. The promoters build the shows around people giving their word. When you give your word and then pull a vanishing act it causes a great deal of work for us as the promoters as we have to scramble to find replacements. Lots of times the short notice doesn’t give us a chance to find a fill in. When this happens the fans get affected as they were coming to see a specific fight lots of times. I, Shannon Miller, am writing this as both a partner in Cage Wars Ny and as a fighter for 30 years. I have been effected by all of these issues as a fighter with the exception of myself ever agreeing to a fight and not showing to fight. Now myself and my partners are dealing with people that seem to want to enjoy the accolades of being known as a fighter without the courage to put their dues in. It’s very upsetting when people pull no shows for us as promoters, for the fighters and for the fans. In finality and something people should seriously think about before agreeing to a fight: being a fighter doesn’t necessarily qualify you as a man with courage, but saying you will fight and not showing up will assure you never earn that honor!

Cage Wars 19 Pablo Olivera vs Wasee Fenix (78)

Can you say fight of the night! Well we can, these two fighters brought their a-game and fought almost a full 3 rounds at Cage Wars 19. They came prepared and it showed, Bravo Warriors!

Keep an eye out for Eddie Haws in the future and if you have a bucket list mark this down, see Eddie Haws battle it out in the cage, that is a √ on our bucket list.

We have the video coverage from Cage Wars 19 Interim Lightweight Title match for everyone to view. There was a pause in our taping as our tape was being viewed by the Officials and that is the only reason there is a break in below video, we also removed parts were fighter’s emotions were overloaded. We know both of these fighters and in no way would we shed a negative light on them, as well as Cage Wars and Cory Bowks. Everyone in the cage for this bout did the job they had to do and we hope this coverages shows the true athleticism of these fighters and all those involved.
